Music Monday: Hozier

My favourite song on the radio right now.  It's crazy intense and so amazing.  I also suggest checking out the original video.  It's dark but beautiful.

Sunday Meditations: Upon Being a Bad Blogger

I tried my darnedest back in March to get back into regular blogging.  Here I am at the end of April and we can see how well that's gone.  It's kinda like my painting habits lately.  Above is "Summer Storm," my submission for Art Brulant's annual exhibition using burlap coffee sacks.  I was originally going to put it in a window frame, but when the frame went in front, it cut off the trees, and part of the lightning.  So it's going to be a very rustic submission.  Not my usual, that's for sure.  Hopefully it ends up being alright.
It has somewhat inspired me to get back on the ball and finish some paintings that have been taking extended vacations while I puttered at this one.  Stay tuned.

Thankful Thursday: Sleepy Sounds

I like to fall asleep to sounds.  Usually, I set an Ipad app up to play thunderstorms, or heavy rain, or wind.  But the last few days, I can fall asleep to the real thing outside my window.  And it's lovely.

Artful Wednesday: Fearful

I'm not so sure about that yellow wash on the doors.  Then again, I always get to this point and have the most difficult time with the choices I make.  I've since progressed a little past this photo, and I've even put some details into the cats, and it's just not what I'm used to.  I'm fearful that this might be a scrapped canvas at the end of this journey.

Thankful Thursday

No matter what, you can always be thankful for the giggles you get when your pet does something absolutely ridiculous... like make a bed out of your table easel.

Artful Wednesday: Painting Feelings

Day one into my barn kitties painting.  I haven't been painting as much as I need to be, and I'm really feeling it.  It seems as though every time I start a painting, or anything creative, I get swept up by this feeling of not being good enough to do what needs to be done.  I feel as though I'm not good enough to convey what I want through my skill.  It's the most debilitating feeling in the world.  But I suppose the only thing one can do when faced with a crise de confiance is to keep moving.  Or in my case... keep painting.

Music Monday: Noah Gundersen

I heard this song a few weeks ago on CBC's Nightstream, and was completely blown away.  This song is absolutely beautiful.  Enjoy.

Sunday Meditations: Upon Milling About

My brother and I spent the day milling about my apartment, setting things up and moving things around. We put up old drawers as display shelves in my spare room - the drawers came from the attic above our old garage, and my grandmother doesn't even know from where they originated. The garage was first built to house the oil delivery trucks for the Imperial Oil business my great-grandfather started in 1929. We figure it's been at least 40 years since oil trucks were kept there, but the building still smells heavily of oil - and therefore everything else in the building.

So the shelves are in place with lots of cool knick-knacks upon them. We also moved some furniture around in the living room and kitchen... and my bedroom for that matter. And, because the brother has March break this week, he's staying at my place tonight for fun. Sibling night in onesies - now if I can just find out how to make him stop talking so much.

Sassy Saturday: Upcycled Headboard

Back in the summer, I bought a wooden thing-a-ma-jig from my godmother's garage sale.  It was stained dark, we thought it came off a pump organ or china cabinet or something cool.  She said she got it planning to do something fun with it and it never happened.  So it came home with me, got several coats of bright yellow paint, and voila... a new headboard. The mirror came with it and has the loveliest beveled edges.  Sweet dreams!
